BJP-led Karnataka government cancels Tipu Jayanti, calls it "controversial and communal". - Truth Arrived

Bengaluru: After winning the floor test in the Karnataka Assembly, B. S. Yediyurappa-led BJP government cancels the celebration of Tipu Jayanti from this year. The official twitter handle of BJP Karnataka twitted,"Our Govt cancelled observing controversial & communal Tipu Jayanti".

Tipu Jayanti was celebrated every year on the Birth Anniversary of Sultan Fateh Ali Sahab Tipu, popularly known as Tipu Sultan, on 10 November every year. Sultan Tipu is often known as 'Sher-e-Mysore' which means the 'Tiger of Mysore'.

"Dr APJ Abdul Kalam, the former President of India, in his Tipu Sultan Shaheed Memorial Lecture in Bangalore (30 November 1991), called Tipu Sultan the innovator of the world's first war rocket. Two of these rockets, captured by the British at Srirangapatna, were displayed in the Royal Artillery Museum in London", says Wikipedia.

"BJP and right-wing organisations had stiffly opposed, Tipu Jayanti celebrations, calling the ruler a "religious bigot"", the outlook reported.

Tipu Sultan was the son of Sultan Hyder Ali who fought many wars with the British to protect his homeland. He got 'martyred' in the Fourth Anglo-Mysore War and is burried in Srirangapatna.
